A restricted resource, access to which would ordinarily be detected, may be exfiltrated from the backend, despite being protected by a web application firewall that uses CRS. Short subsections of a restricted resource may bypass pattern matching techniques and allow undetected access. The legacy CRS versions 3.0.x and 3.1.x are affected, as well as the currently supported versions 3.2.1 and 3.3.2. Integrators and users are advised to upgrade to 3.2.2 and 3.3.3 respectively and to configure a CRS paranoia level of 3 or higher.","The OWASP ModSecurity Core Rule Set (CRS) is affected by a response body bypass to sequentially exfiltrate small and undetectable sections of data by repeate...","2022-09-20T07:15:12.417","2025-11-03T20:15:56.693",7.5,"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N",{"CVSSMetricV31":15,"CVSSMetricV30":33,"CVSSMetricV2":34,"CVSSMetricV40":26},[16,29
"vulnerability@ncsc.ch","Secondary
"3.1","NETWORK","LOW","NONE","UNCHANGED","HIGH",null,3.9,3.6
"nvd@nist.gov","Primary
[],[],0.01232,[35,35,35,35,35,35,35],"High",[39,44,49,52,55
"owasp","owasp_modsecurity_core_rule_set","*","cpe:2.3:a:owasp:owasp_modsecurity_core_rule_set:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
"fedoraproject","fedora","35","cpe:2.3:o:fedoraproject:fedora:35:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
"36","cpe:2.3:o:fedoraproject:fedora:36:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
"37","cpe:2.3:o:fedoraproject:fedora:37:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
"debian","debian_linux","10.0","cpe:2.3:o:debian:debian_linux:10.0:*:*:*:*:*:*:*",5,[62,68,74,78,81,84,88,90,92,95,97,99,101
"https://coreruleset.org/20220919/crs-version-3-3-3-and-3-2-2-covering-several-cves/","Coreruleset",[66,67],"Patch","Vendor Advisory
"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/01/msg00033.html","Debian",[72,73],"Mailing List","Third Party Advisory
"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/HL2L2GF7GOCWPMJZDUE5OXDSXHGG3XUJ/","Fedoraproject",[
"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/PD56EAYNGB6E6QQH62LAYCONOP6OH5DZ/",[
"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/YPQ6CCMX3MU4A7MTCGQJA7VMJW3IQDXV/",[
"https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/202305-25","Gentoo",[
[66,67
[72,73
"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2025/08/msg00004.html",[
[
[
[
[],13,[105,113
"CWE-116","Improper Encoding or Escaping of Output","The product prepares a structured message for communication with another component, but encoding or escaping of the data is either missing or done incorrectly. As a result, the intended structure of the message is not preserved.","Improper encoding or escaping can allow attackers to change the commands that are sent to another component, inserting malicious commands instead.
Most products follow a certain protocol that uses structured messages for communication between components, such as queries or commands. These structured messages can contain raw data interspersed with metadata or control information. For example, "GET /index.html HTTP/1.1" is a structured message containing a command ("GET") with a single argument ("/index.html") and metadata about which protocol version is being used ("HTTP/1.1").
If an application uses attacker-supplied inputs to construct a structured message without properly encoding or escaping, then the attacker could insert special characters that will cause the data to be interpreted as control information or metadata. Consequently, the component that receives the output will perform the wrong operations, or otherwise interpret the data incorrectly.","Draft","Class","Simple
"CWE-863","Incorrect Authorization","The product performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions.","Assuming a user with a given identity, authorization is the process of determining whether that user can access a given resource, based on the user's privileges and any permissions or other access-control specifications that apply to the resource.
When access control checks are incorrectly applied, users are able to access data or perform actions that they should not be allowed to perform.
