Unhandled errors in API requests coming from an authenticated user include traceback information, which can include path information. There is no known mechanism by which to trigger these errors without authentication, so the paths revealed are not considered particularly sensitive, given that the requesting user has arbitrary execution permissions already in the same environment. A fix has been introduced in commit `0056c3aa52` which no longer includes traceback information in JSON error responses. For compatibility, the traceback field is present, but always empty. This commit has been included in version 2.11.2. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.","The Jupyter Server provides the backend (i.e. the core services, APIs, and REST endpoints) for Jupyter web applications like Jupyter notebook, JupyterLab, an...","2023-12-04T21:15:34.273","2023-12-14T03:15:36.243",4.3,"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N",{"CVSSMetricV31":15,"CVSSMetricV30":26,"CVSSMetricV2":26,"CVSSMetricV40":26},[16,29
"nvd@nist.gov","Primary
"3.1","NETWORK","LOW","NONE","UNCHANGED","MEDIUM",null,2.8,1.4
"security-advisories@github.com","Secondary
"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","REQUIRED",3.5,2.1,0.00841,[37,37,37,37,37,37,37],"Medium",[41
"jupyter","jupyter_server","*","cpe:2.3:a:jupyter:jupyter_server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*",1,[48,53,57,61
"https://github.com/jupyter-server/jupyter_server/commit/0056c3aa52cbb28b263a7a609ae5f17618b36652","GitHub",[52],"Patch
"https://github.com/jupyter-server/jupyter_server/security/advisories/GHSA-h56g-gq9v-vc8r",[56],"Third Party Advisory
"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/62LO7PPIAMLIDEKUOORXLHKLGA6QPL77/","Fedoraproject",[
"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/FG2JWZI5KPUYMDPS53AIFTZJWZD3IT6I/",[],4,[66
"CWE-209","Generation of Error Message Containing Sensitive Information","The product generates an error message that includes sensitive information about its environment, users, or associated data.","The sensitive information may be valuable information on its own (such as a password), or it may be useful for launching other, more serious attacks. The error message may be created in different ways:
An attacker may use the contents of error messages to help launch another, more focused attack. For example, an attempt to exploit a path traversal weakness (CWE-22) might yield the full pathname of the installed application. In turn, this could be used to select the proper number of ".." sequences to navigate to the targeted file. An attack using SQL injection (CWE-89) might not initially succeed, but an error message could reveal the malformed query, which would expose query logic and possibly even passwords or other sensitive information used within the query.","Draft","Base","Simple",false,[
"What is CVE-2023-49080?
